Allegory
MISSIONE BILBAO

To describe the allegory of this float, two factors must be considered: firstly, the trip made to Spain, in the city of Bilbao, by our current councillor for Tourism and the Arts. Bilbao is an important Spanish centre that has recently undergone a major redevelopment and it has seen an important touristic growth to the point that many have spoken of the "Bilbao Model". Secondly, when he became councillor, he said he had intentions to develop Sciacca by applying here the "Bilbao model". According to the allegory, at the time of the appointment, he brought his ideas from Spain to Sciacca on a bull with the intention of realizing them here quickly. On the float, we see the councillor represented as a matador who accepts the challenge by bringing his fantastic ideas to Sciacca and is accompanied by a beautiful Señorita. The bull, a fundamental component of the float, also represents the citizen of Sciacca, very annoyed and enraged as well as wounded in his pride and morals. Everything is settled in a duel in the arena, in a bullfight. The bullfighter's goal will not be to kill the bull but to make it harmless and tame it. Thanks to his experience, the long-awaited change should take place. Obviously, we will know soon how it will end when everything will be revealed during the performance on the stage in Piazza Scandaliato.
